| There
is no specific term for IBS in Ayurveda. In Ayurvedic
literature the disease called Grahani resembles most
of the IBS symptoms.
Very Important similarity between IBS and Grahani
• Like IBS, Grahani is a pathological condition
of the function and integrity of GI- Tract.
• It is chronic in nature.
• It is characterized by stool with mucus or some
time undigested stool with the episode of diarrhoea
and constipation with hard pieces of stool.
Etiology (Nidana) of Grahani:
Irregular eating
pattern
Poor nutrition
Increased consumption of fried and heavy food.
Overeating and consumption of food that is too dry,
cold, spicy, fried, heavy and hot in nature.
Disruption of natural biological rhythm.
Taking excessive physical and mental stress.
Poor digestion due to eating meals without proper digestion
of previous meals.
Regular consumption of food with is opposite to body
prakruti.
Suppressing the
natural urges.
Preliminary
sign and symptoms:
Patients complain
of excessive thirst, general weakness, lack of energy,
burning sensation just after eating, Abdominal distension,
heaviness and very annoying feeling in the abdomen which
is very hard to explain in words. |
